Idea for investment.
I often hear actors say: "okay, I have some extra cash now, what should I get a website?". As somebody who would be on the receiving end of that conversation I should just just nod repeatedly and say "YES", right? Well, I feel there are always things that are important that could help you in your careers, while others... well they come in handy.
Owning an actor website is not at all expensive, especially not with us, but if you have $135 bucks to spare, rather than getting another set of so-so headshots, why not invest into getting a passport?
This is of course the fee here in the States, for our international friends in the UK, Canada and Australia, different fees apply, but the concept is the same. Getting a passport might be very time consuming and it's a bit of a hassle, but once you have it, you don't have to skip projects that are beyond your borders just because you're missing a little pocket book.
Once you get your password, make sure you put it in the skills area on your resume (and on your website of course). This way, when casting directors see it, it might spark something and they might remember you when there's an opportunity abroad. And of course... search engine is your friend. With the right keywords, you will always come up in top results in Google, Yahoo and Bing.
In the U.S. it takes about 6-8 weeks if you don't do the rush job, but once it's done. you'll be set. Oh, did I mention it makes your I-9 paperwork easier? Well, anywho, that's my tip of the week.
